Mike and Jade from the Wild Bird Sanctuary joined us for our February Pack meeting - and the brought a few friends: three types of Owls, a Kestrel, a Falcon, an African Vulture, and last but not least Mischief- the Raven. Their hour long program taught us about the importance of birds of prey and what we can do to ensure their continued survival. They also shared some rather gross tidbits about each bird - Owls barf up pellets that usually contain the bones of their last meal, vultures have narrow pointy beaks to get at the good zebra rib meat, and Ravens adore eating rat tails are just a few facts we learned while these very cool, very big, birds flew back and forth just inches over the heads of our enthralled cub scouts. I think it is safe to say that cubs and parents alike were blown away! |
